Large-scale distribution and agri-food: virtuous partnerships for a sustainable supply chain

Partnerships between the agri-food chain and the large-scale retail sector can foster the creation of virtuous sustainability dynamics. We talk about it with representatives of the category.

The "Innovation and sustainability" series of meetings of ALTIS Università Cattolica continues with an event dedicated to sustainability in the agri-food sector and large-scale distribution.

Informed, critical and experienced: when it comes to nutrition, today's consumers are increasingly responsible and careful. And they also expect ethical and transparent behavior from retailers: for 82.5% of Italians, in fact, it is important that the food products purchased reflect their ethical, social and environmental beliefs.

Thanks to their intermediary position between suppliers and consumers, large-scale retail companies can act as real sustainability triggers: their attention to sustainability and increasingly clear and transparent communication have, in fact, led to positive effects on the entire value chain, stimulating the entire supply chain to adopt more responsible behaviors, from certifications, to traceability, to quality control.

In this context, Private Label products are becoming increasingly important which, in addition to having started a virtuous process along the entire supply chain, have also guided the rediscovery of local excellence and Italian small and medium-sized enterprises, enhancing artisanal productions and directing spending towards a more sustainable horizon.
