AirFrance KLM Co-Lab | Business Travel and Air Travel: Managing Impact, Reducing Emissions

The third edition of the Co-LAB in collaboration with AirFrance KLM, a discussion between industry experts on the sustainable development of air transport and how to manage the impact and reduce emissions

Business Travel and Air Transport: Managing the Impact, Reducing Emissions. The third edition of the Collaborative Aviation Lab, an annual event born from the partnership between Air France-KLM and ALTIS dedicated to addressing the challenges of the sector, was also more than an event. The result of a discussion and in-depth work that began three years ago and which aims to be a point of reference for the sustainable development of the sector.

The Lab brings together players and professionals in the sector, sustainability managers, academics and consultants who are experts in reporting and sustainability, to discuss critical issues and new opportunities. Integrating sustainability into travel management is becoming increasingly important for companies, both from an emissions and impact management perspective and in terms of ESG reporting. Within the company, this means seeking a balance between figures with different objectives, such as travel managers, sustainability managers and the needs of mobile employees.

Looking instead at the value chain, it becomes central to collaborate with suppliers who offer lower-impact solutions and who help report emissions with data and certifications that comply with international standards. A determining factor also with respect to Scope 3 reporting.

A complex issue that was at the center of the debate moderated by Marco Minciullo, Assistant Professor of Strategy, with speeches by Alessia Coeli, general manager ALTIS; Eleonore Tramus, General Manager East Mediterranean Air; Fabio Andaloro, Sales Director Italy Malta & Albania AIRFRANCE KLM & DELTA AIRLINES; Edouard Martin, Sustainability Manager, Air France-KLM; Cristina Lazzaroni, Sales Manager Trade & Corporate at Air France-KLM Delta Airlines; Jacopo Bassi, Senior Manager ALTIS Advisory; Irene Fontana, Global ESG Senior Advisor, RINA S.p.A.; Pierluigi Nunzi, Head of Environment, Emergency, HSE System and New Technologies, Saipem.

The aviation sector presents a very complex situation: transport is a sector in which CO2 emissions have increased in the last 10 years in the EU. For this reason, tools such as SAF fuel are useful solutions not only to reduce emissions, but also to ensure, in reporting, the possibility of substantiating decarbonization efforts (business travel weighs heavily for service companies compared to total emissions) using direct data offered by travel service providers.
