Socio-economic inequality is one of the most pervasive and deeply rooted forms of discrimination of our time. Yet it remains largely absent from corporate sustainability and diversity management policies.
Drawing on the reflections presented in a recent publication dedicated to this topic, the open lesson held within the HR Module of the Professione Sostenibilità Executive Course offered a fresh perspective on the current challenges facing diversity management initiatives—and, more broadly, sustainability itself.
As diversity, equity, and inclusion programs increasingly come under scrutiny and criticism, the session explored how the persistent neglect of socio-economic discrimination has contributed to a perception of diversity management and sustainability as issues primarily associated with privileged groups. This disconnect risks undermining both their credibility and their effectiveness.
The open lesson provided an opportunity to discuss tools, practices, and approaches capable of bringing the socio-economic dimension back to the center of corporate policies. Through dialogue with sustainability and diversity management practitioners and experts, the session aimed to foster a practical and action-oriented reflection on how these fields can become more inclusive, impactful, and relevant.
