The professions of sustainability: what challenges are on the horizon?

On the occasion of the XX edition of the Profession Sustainability Course (formerly Professione CSR), an event dedicated to all participants of past editions was held, in which the new challenges of the professions related to sustainability were outlined.

This year the "Sustainability Profession" Course has reached its twentieth edition. What better time, if not now, to take stock of the course that is training an entire generation of Sustainability Managers and sustainability professionals?

Over time, we have observed together with our partners, alumni and alumnae the evolution of what we once called "corporate social responsibility", as well as the key role of executive education as a driver of sustainable change.

In order to outline the challenges of the profession and explore the most innovative frontiers of Higher Education, we wanted to involve the participants of all editions in a survey, the results of which were presented and discussed during the event. In addition to celebrating the milestone achieved together, the day wanted to start a shared reflection on the changes, the evolution over time of the profession and the future prospects that await Sustainability Managers.

During the afternoon session, in fact, the participants were divided into four  thematic discussion groups with the aim of identifying ideas, proposals and new trends in the profession starting from the results that emerged from the survey. The four areas of discussion:

  • Life long learning and strategic skills (soft and hard)
  • Sustainability as a "pervasive" element of business
  • Inclusion and stakeholder engagement: underestimated challenges?
  • Communication as an "ally" of sustainable development and reporting as a communication lever
