Fabio Fraticelli, TechSoup: "Data helps to put the person at the centre"

The strength of a Third Sector entity that helps other non-profit organizations to undertake conscious and effective digital transformation paths, in the words of its CEO.

It all started back in 1987, in California. The nascent CompuMentor network, which later became TechSoup, offered technological support to non-profit organizations. Today, TechSoup is a global network present in over 230 countries and territories around the world. Fabio Fraticelli, CEO of TechSoup Italia, works to support digital transformation in the Third Sector. We meet him during a speech at the Executive Master in Third Sector and Social Enterprise to explore the role of data in social innovation.

What is your strength?
To be a third sector entity that supports other organizations in their path of conscious and effective digital transformation. Technology becomes a tool to amplify the impact of non-profit organizations.

How do you work concretely?
We help identify the best available technologies and introduce them in an informed way in organizations. In this process, data analysis plays a key role.

Why is data analysis increasingly relevant for the Third Sector?
Data is a valuable source of knowledge, but its value only emerges if it is used to drive strategic decisions and transform organizations into Data Driven Organizations.

Do people remain at the center?
Absolutely. Nonprofits are driven by people, not data. However, having quality data allows for more informed and accurate decisions, improving social impact.

How do you identify the data that is really useful?

Today, data is more accessible than ever. However, they must be collected, organized and analyzed to become effective tools for organizational improvement.

What is the role of digital?

The combination of data and digital tools is fundamental. Organizations need to equip themselves with the right technologies to collect, process, and use data effectively.

How to facilitate digital transformation?

There are two areas of intervention: an internal one, linked to the management and monitoring of performance, and an external one, focused on the impact of services on beneficiaries.

What benefits does this culture of data bring?

Nonprofits can improve both their internal efficiency and the effectiveness of the services they offer, better adapting to the needs of the community.

Do we need new skills?

It is not necessary to hire hundreds of Data Scientists, but those working in the sector must acquire basic skills on data management and analysis, even through simple tools such as spreadsheets and dashboards.

In summary, promoting a culture of data means helping organizations make better decisions and enhance their social impact. A fundamental step for the future of the Third Sector.
